Thinking that if I try to do a post, perhaps even look to turn it into a possible podcast, of the sights and sounds encountered “Along the Trail” while doing our chores. Both here at Briden Farm and on the other properties we have do work on.
This morning, even before leaving to do the chores, we had a beautiful breakthrough!
It’s a little dark, but actually it’s brilliant! Roscoe, and his adopted son Pete (The Cat) and River (Roscoe’s natural born son) all three sharing their mat for the first time!
Shortly after Pete went for a well deserved rest, he got another rodent taken care of last night. While Roscoe and River joined us to do chores Along The Trail.
This is one of my favourite places, an old well and well house, originally used by a family who had a little house here. Or so I’ve been told by a long time resident.
We get water from this well for our Goats and Sheep when they’re in the nearby pasture. I always try to take a photo of them and when possible the fence charger. That way I help insure I have the power turned on.
As You can see, it’s quite beautiful, and enhanced by the work our goats are doing.
This area is actually an overgrown five acre woodland pasture. Once a hay field it’s sadly been allowed to become overgrown with weeds, roses, briars, and other invasive species. Left on its own it’d become a Mass of impenetrable briars and scrub.
Last year we began running our goats, and sheep, here. The goats do the heavy lifting. They eat the scrub, briars, weeds, and brush. The sheep are like the fine pruners.
We use them in the grassy areas and they help clean it up.
All this trimming and pruning helps get rid of the invasive species and stimulates growth of the more desirable grasses and forage. It all works together and gets fertilized in the process.
It’s about a ten minute walk to return to our house and there we were greeted by these beauties…
It makes us feel warm and welcome! Would You like a tour of Briden Farm, where You can come spend time walking our trails and seeing our birds and animals?
