A New Project: Country Air Radio
A Passion Project with Lots of Heart
As You may know, especially if you’ve been reading my Substack for awhile I have vast and varied interests. I know sometimes that actually turns some people off! Actually, I fully understand.
That doesn’t mean I’m going to change!
Although my purpose for writing changes regularly. Sometimes several times a day. I write everything from Poetry to Politics or Political Criticism at least. I also have Sunday Service with Brian Hurlburt on .Facebook, Medium, and Substack. No that I am any better than anyone else. I’m not! As Paul said, “I am Chief among Sinners”. (1 Timothy 1:15)
For decades now I’ve wanted to turn my writing and especially my poetry in to songs. I lacked that ability. I then discovered Songer.co which allowed me to turn my writing and poetry into songs!
Actually I created an album! Love Beneath The Wave. (Google It)
That discovery led me full circle back to a long held interest of mine. Radio! Actually, I just made the discovery about how I could use AI to turn my writing into songs about 6 months ago. Maybe a little more!
While the idea of creating an Online Radio Station has been on my heart for much longer. I never dreamed I’d be using AI to create it!
Oh, I built the website, CountryAirRadio.com and I’ve been working the past few months to get it up and running! Country, Gospel, and Uplifting Music! Songs based on my writing and poetry and memories of the stories that I heard when I was young, or have heard since! Notice I didn’t say when I grew up!
The feeling I get when I see what’s happening with Country Air Radio is interesting. It’s a Testimony, it’s a heartfelt Tribute to our local people like Maudie, and Freddie, and others like Uncle Tom, and Ole John Carey, and Miss Jeffery, and others that have not only touched my heart but the hearts around them! These songs, they celebrate Them!
Not to mention the Mi’gmaw, the Acadiens, the Planters, Privateers, and others! These songs tell stories of Them!
Places like Camp Peniel, and the Yarmouth Light, and Point Pleasant, and the Citadel! These songs speak of Them!
To me, honestly, I feel like I’ve found My Place! My Space (My Air)
It’s because of all of this I believe it’s my calling, or at least part of it!
An important Part!
So, now, having the Animals here to look after at Briden Farm (BridenFarm.com) and the running of Country Air Radio is enough. So, not want to run myself ragged, or short change the Listener, I’m looking for someone who wants to earn 40-50% Commission selling Advertising!
I think if you can hear my passion, you know I’ll make this thing work! I’ll make it good for the Salesperson also, having spent 40+ years working mostly on Commission! I know what it takes, and I’ll work to make sure it’s good for everyone.
My first round of Applications were interesting, the Job Posting clearly stated we want …
Advertising Sales Representative - Earn 40-50% as an Independent Contractor selling Advertising on CountryAirRadio.com and then went on to describe what that entails. We had about a third of the Applicants respond asking what they’d be selling and how much they’d be making?
Needless to say those ones were quickly dismissed.
Others were from Ontario, Quebec, and Western Canada. Partly my fault, I guess, I had put that the Job was a Hybrid and then explained They’d be working contacting Businesses and would be working in person, from home, and on the phone (Remotely). Most of these were just a waste of time as they hadn’t read the listing either!
Now, out of 30-40 applicants there were about a third who got passed my first two questions. Basically asking if they realized it was a Commission income with no base wage or salary. Then the second question, especially for those “from away” was basically a rewording of the first, asking how they’d go about it, especially since they’d be required to source most, if not all, of their own leads.
So, after all that I had about 10-12 who got through the gate. None of them did anything. Not even signing the Contract!
Most of those who did sign the Contract haven’t done anything. I don’t know that any of them have even knocked On a door or picked up the phone. It takes a certain kind of person to be Self Employed!
I’ve made it through most of my life Self Employed. Perhaps that’s why my Indeed Resume kept coming up as the Number 1 Best Match!
I’m not really looking for work at this point in my life! I’ll be 60 in less than 2 months! Wow that seems like a BIG Number!
I’m realizing that I’m probably going to be my best, and worst, Sales Rep though! Which if I weren’t already running a Homesteading Farm (Briden Farm) and now an Online Radio Station (CountryAirRadio.com) might actually be a great opportunity!
Local Radio Stations are charging $29-$39 for a 30 Second Ad!
At CountryAirRadio.com You can get Mentioned “On Air” three time a day for a month! I also understand what it’s like to run a business, especially a small, Mom and Pop type business! So I want to keep it affordable! The prices will definitely be going up! Although those who get their Ads now, can lock it in if they want. Only if They want! Otherwise they don’t need to be tied into anything!
So, I know it’s Good! It’s my Passion and I’m tempted to say my calling!
I’ll make it work! I can do that easier if I can find the right person, or persons, to sell the Advertising. Honestly I wish someone had of offered me this opportunity when I was younger, or at least had the time to do it.
I applied at the local Radio station in Yarmouth at least a couple times over the years, when I was younger! Neither time did my application make it past File “G”. G for Garbage! I’m sure I was t quite what they were looking for. 👀
Anyway, I digress! I’m not sure what it is, but I love that word! Digress!
So, because I know CountryAirRadio.com is going to work, I’ve been working to create the songs for our Playlist. We now have well over 150 tracks. Some mostly Songs, some Ads (mostly our own for Briden Farm, etc.) Although we have had positive feedback from our Advertisers. Especially the New Ross Christmas Festival and WOOOF Canada (WWOOF.ca). I’ve also been working to expand our Reach and Resources. You can learn more about that on CountryAirRadio.com and the Advertising Page. Our website has only been online for about three months, and yet people are coming, and staying 2-3 times longer than the internet average. They’re also coming back an average of 2-3 times! These are really good numbers for a new website! It shows people are interested and their return visits show they found something to bring them back! Of course they did, our songs connect with the heart! How can they not! Locally created, locally inspired, songs that tell the tales, in an uplifting way of our people, places, and things combined with a website where you can get news, weather, tides, and local happenings and community events, all in one place! That’s Powerful!
So, who do You know? Who do You know that wants to Earn 40-50% selling advertising plus get 10-20% on Repeat Business!?
